The myth of "toughness" and why it must die.
We invest too much value in a quality we cannot define that exists solely to positively compare ourselves to others we deem lesser.
The current discourse regarding law school is that same old saw that every person of a certain age trots out: the kids are bad and weak, unlike my generation. Personally, I take Pete Townsend's rendition as my watchword. We worry too much about the next generation. They’ll be fine.
But I do worry about the older generations and their fetishization of “toughness.” It is this concept I want to explore today.
